s.luce Orb Modular 5-light pendant E27, gold-gradient and smoked glass globes, black canopy

The s.luce Orb Modular is a pendant light with five glass globes, each hanging on its own cable beneath a single round black canopy 60 cm in diameter. In this colourway some globes have gold-gradient glass and the rest smoked glass, so the cascade pairs a warm metallic tone with smoky grey. The maker calls it a gallery light — a long-drop fitting designed for high spaces.

How big it is and where it hangs

The set is made up of globes in three diameters: two of 20 cm, two of 30 cm and one of 40 cm. Each hangs on its own cable of up to 500 cm, shortened during installation, so the height of every globe is set separately — from a tight cluster under the ceiling to a cascade running down two storeys. The maker also states that the position of the globes on the canopy can be adjusted, so they need not be arranged as in the photos.

The fitting is intended for spaces open to the floor above: galleries, stairwells, entrance halls and high-ceilinged living rooms. The 60 cm canopy stays fully visible on the ceiling, so compare its size with the free area around the connection point.

Which light sources it needs

Each globe has its own E27 lampholder — five in total — and the maker allows a bulb of up to 40 W in each. Bulbs are not included. The light can be dimmed, but only with bulbs marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer in the installation. The bulb is visible through the glass, so its shape and colour become part of how the whole light looks.

The fitting is protection class I, which means it has to be connected to the earth conductor.

What it is made of

The globes are glass; the canopy and suspension are black metal. According to the maker, the glass globes are made by hand and each one is unique, so the gold gradient and the depth of the smoked tint can differ slightly from piece to piece.

Orb Modular is a system: the same canopy also comes in white, and in other versions of this light the globes are clear, opal, smoked, or in gold, smoke or copper gradients. This variant combines gold gradient with smoked glass on a black suspension.
