s.luce Plate LED ceiling and wall light Ø 30 cm gold 3000 K 20 W dimmable

The s.luce Plate is an LED light with a round 30 cm reflector plate in a gold-leaf colour and a flat black head set in front of it. The head does not shine downwards but onto the plate, which bounces the light back into the room — the result is indirect light that does not dazzle, on a ceiling or a wall.

How the light and the rotating head work

The head with the built-in LEDs rotates to sit inside or outside the outline of the plate; as it moves, the shadow on the ceiling or wall changes and so does the light cone — symmetrical or asymmetrical. Flip the head open and the Plate gives direct light instead of reflected light.

The LEDs emit 3000 K warm white, and according to the maker the gold surface warms the reflected light further. 1430 lm at 20 W is roughly what two old 60 W bulbs gave. The source is built into the head, so there are no bulbs to buy; the maker quotes 25,000 hours of operation and 20,000 switching cycles.

Dimensions and installation

The plate is 30 cm across and the light stands 10 cm off the ceiling or wall. The driver box is fixed and wired to the 230 V cable first; the head and plate then go onto the base, held by strong adjustable magnets and secured by a steel cable. Power reaches the head through a simple plug connector. The light is protection class I, so the wiring must include an earth conductor.

The 30 cm size also works as a wall light; mounted that way, the head may need to be fixed in place. Instead of hard-wiring, a cable with a plug for a wall socket is available as an accessory.

Dimming and where to use it

It dims with leading-edge or trailing-edge phase dimmers. The maker recommends the flush-mounted Busch-Jäger 6523 U-102 and Eltako DTD55-230V-wg, the Eltako EUD12NPN-UC for a DIN rail and the Eltako EUD61NPN-UC for a deep wall box. A conversion for remote or app control is sold separately.

s.luce intends the Plate for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens and hallways, with the smaller sizes suggested for corridors. Its flat, modern form combines with the s.luce Hive and Cloud lights. The series also includes 45 and 60 cm plates, square versions and a white finish.
