Sola 1 Light Pendant, Polished Nickel and Clear Glass Elstead

Sola is a pendant with a cylindrical shade of clear, mouth-blown glass with a diamond pattern. The metalwork — the shade cap, lampholder and ceiling rose — is finished in polished nickel. It is the distributor Elstead Lighting's own line, made in England.

Size and hanging height

The shade is 17 cm across and the fitting itself 26.8 cm high. The drop adjusts from 35.8 to 220.8 cm, so the pendant suits a low ceiling as well as a tall room. Over a dining table the bottom of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the top — with a 75 cm table and a 250 cm ceiling that means a drop of about 100 cm.

A 17 cm diameter makes this a small pendant: one lights part of a table, and over a kitchen island or a longer table several can be hung in a row. The fitting weighs 2.25 kg, so an ordinary ceiling fixing point is enough.

Bulb and light

The fitting has one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W; no bulb is included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible through the shade and the diamond pattern refracts its light. Elstead recommends a clear E27 A60 LED lamp of 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K — warm white, about as bright as an old 60 W bulb.

The pendant can be dimmed when a dimmable bulb and a dimmer are used. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use.

The pendant is intended for use over a dining table and over a kitchen island. The style is modern: a plain cylinder with a single motif — the texture of the glass — and bright nickel.
