STEINEL DUAL US COM1 DE 079598 ultrasonic presence detector, white, in-ceiling installation

The STEINEL DUAL US COM1 DE 079598 is an ultrasonic presence detector for recessed ceiling installation and lighting control along corridors. Its plastic housing is white RAL 9010, with a rounded square front and detection directed both ways along the passage. COM1 switches lighting on and off; this is not the constant-lighting control version.

Detection suited to a passage rather than an open room

Ultrasonic sensing operates at 40 kHz and detects movement independently of temperature. The waves can travel around obstacles rather than penetrate them. This matters when choosing a position in a corridor with bends or features that interrupt a direct line of sight. STEINEL identifies corridors and circulation routes in office and administrative buildings as applications for this family.

Reach is electronically adjustable. Check the proposed location in test mode against the actual layout, rather than treating the maximum detection-zone length as a promise for every building configuration. The detector is intended for indoor use and carries an IP20 rating; it is not an outdoor movement sensor.

Set switching to suit presence and ambient light

Mixed-light metering provides a brightness threshold adjustable from 10 to 1000 lx. The teach function can adopt a threshold from current lighting conditions. The stay-on time can be selected between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. Semi-automatic and fully automatic operation are available, alongside pushbutton or switch control. Settings can be entered through potentiometers, DIP switches or a remote control.

The DE designation identifies this recessed ceiling version. Dimensions for the complete variant are 109 × 120 × 120 mm; compare these with the space prepared in the ceiling. Permitted installation height is 2.5–3.5 m, with 2.8 m specified as optimum. The unit requires a 220–240 V AC supply and professional electrical connection. Wired networking supports master/master or master/slave arrangements with up to ten sensors.
