A silver lamp is one of the easiest finishes to live with: it sits well with white, grey, black and timber, and in a modern kitchen or bathroom it blends naturally with taps and appliances. Our range includes over 2,800 silver lights, most of them from Lumines, Elstead Lighting, Trio, RL, Zuma Line and Endon.
Which silver finish?
“Silver” on a product page can mean several quite different surfaces. They differ in sheen, in how much they show fingerprints and in how they reflect light.
-
Brushed aluminium: matt with a fine grain; hides fingerprints, so it suits kitchens.
-
Satin nickel: soft sheen with a slightly warmer tone, at home in period rooms and bathrooms.
-
Polished silver: mirror-like and eye-catching, but needs wiping more often.
-
Silver-painted steel: even colour, low maintenance, contemporary feel.
Aluminium, metal and steel bodies are the most common here, often combined with glass. When buying several fittings for one room, stick to one finish – polished next to matt tends to look accidental.
Silver lights in the bathroom
Silver pairs naturally with chrome taps, which is why it is a popular bathroom choice. Check the IP rating against the bathroom zones in BS 7671: Zone 2, around the basin and bath, needs at least IP44; Zone 1, directly above the bath or shower, needs IPX4 as a minimum, and IP65 is the usual choice under a shower head. Our range includes IP44 fittings and sealed IP67 lights.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix a silver lamp with gold or brass accents?
Yes – mixing metals is common now, as long as one finish leads. Repeat the silver somewhere else in the room and it will look intentional.
How do I clean silver light fittings?
Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Abrasive creams and scourers will scratch aluminium and polished surfaces.
Warm or cool light for a silver lamp?
Warm white 3000 K for living rooms; neutral 4000 K in kitchens and bathrooms underlines the cool character of the metal.
