Aberdeen Island Light - 3 Lights - Distressed Grey Wood Effect & Old Bronze Elstead

Aberdeen is a Kichler linear island light: a horizontal steel beam finished to look like distressed grey wood, with three rectangular shades of thick, clear water glass with wavy edges hanging beneath it. The metal fittings are finished in old bronze. It is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Over an island or a long table

The light is 106.1 cm long and 20.3 cm deep — sized for a kitchen island or table of about 160–200 cm, leaving a margin at each end. It hangs from two rods; two 15.2 cm and four 30.5 cm rods are supplied to set the overall height between 49.8 and 121.9 cm. Over an island about 90 cm high, the lower edge of the shades usually sits about 75–85 cm above the top.

The fitting weighs 11.54 kg — a lot for a pendant, so it needs a solid ceiling fixing. It is Class I and needs an earth connection.

Bulbs and light

Each shade has an E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W, three in total; no bulbs are included. The thick water glass is clear but rippled, so it distorts the view of the bulb and throws small reflections onto the top — filament bulbs look good here, as in the manufacturer's photos. Three LED bulbs of about 800 lm at 2700–3000 K light a worktop for cooking. With dimmable bulbs and a dimmer, the light can be lowered.

Style

A beam imitating old wood, dark bronze and raw, irregular glass combine classic and rustic styles. The Aberdeen series also includes a six-light chandelier in the same finish.
