The ARGON TOMAR 1478 is a chandelier with three matt opal glass globes 16 cm in diameter, mounted on rigid arms of steel lacquered in a black textured finish. The arms spring from a round ceiling canopy 10 cm across, and small details at the canopy and at the lampholders are brass-plated. Two globes reach out to the sides and the third hangs lower in the middle.
Size and where it fits
The light is only 29 cm high and 51 cm wide, and it has no cable to hang from — that is its whole height below the ceiling. The manufacturer intends it for places where a conventional chandelier on a drop would be too large. Take 29 cm off your own ceiling height to see where the lowest globe will sit.
The canopy screws to the ceiling into expansion plugs. The instructions call for installation by a qualified electrician, including connection of the protective earth conductor. The shades go on last: the springs at the lampholder are pressed in and the glass globe slides over them. The fitting weighs 2 kg.
What light it gives
Each of the three globes has an E27 lampholder rated by the manufacturer for a bulb of up to 15 W, and LED or energy-saving lamps are recommended. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself — for a living room or bedroom, 2700–3000 K, a warm white, is the usual choice. The matt opal glass diffuses the light, so the globes glow evenly with no visible filament.
The fitting is intended for rooms with normal humidity, not for bathrooms.
Which interiors it suits
The manufacturer describes TOMAR as classic and minimalist in style: plain geometry in the arms, three identical globes and the contrast of black against white glass, lifted by small brass-plated accents. It is intended for the living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen and hallway, as well as hotels and restaurants. The same family includes version 1477 with chrome and 1481 with brass, in identical dimensions.
