Babu New 22 is a pendant light with a clear glass shade shaped as a truncated cone that widens towards the bottom. The shade hangs on its cable below a small round ceiling canopy, and both the canopy and the lampholder cover above the shade are chrome-plated. Rendl also makes the same model with a milky opal glass shade.

Size and hanging

The shade is 22 cm in diameter and 23 cm high, and the cable is 150 cm long. Over a dining table a pendant is usually hung so that the bottom edge of the shade sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop, so compare the cable length with the height of your own room. A 22 cm shade suits a smaller table, and over a long worktop or kitchen island several of these lights are usually hung in a row. The light weighs about 1.5 kg net.

Bulb and light

The fitting has an E27 socket and takes an LED lamp of up to 15 W. No bulb is included. Because the glass is clear, the bulb stays visible through the shade and its shape and colour become part of the look, so the bulb you choose decides whether the light is warm and soft or cooler. The light can be dimmed if you use a dimmable LED lamp and a suitable dimmer. It runs on standard 230 V.

The manufacturer intends Babu New 22 for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms, over a table and over a kitchen island, and the catalogue also assigns it to hotels and restaurants. The form is modern: smooth, colourless glass with no ornament and shiny chrome. The clear shade does not block the view, so hung low over a table it does not divide the room visually, and several in a row still look light.
