Bijou is an LED pendant light from Alora Mood, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Three matte opal glass shades — a cylinder, a sphere and a double cone — hang one above another on a white cord, separated by rings in aged gold. The round ceiling canopy shares the same finish.
Size and hanging height
The light itself is 49.3 cm tall and 19.8 cm across at its widest point, the cone — a slender form that is easy to hang in twos or threes over a kitchen island or a long table. The overall drop adjusts from 61 to 236.4 cm, and the cord is 182.8 cm long. The lower edge of the shade should sit 70–80 cm above the table top; with a 75 cm high table that is about 150 cm from the floor, and the adjustment range takes up the difference to your own ceiling height.
The canopy is 14 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm deep. The pendant weighs 1.7 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
How much light and what kind
The light source is a built-in 20 W LED module, supplied with the pendant, so there are no bulbs to buy — but it cannot be swapped like an ordinary bulb. It gives 1060 lm, more than an old 60 W bulb, at 3000 K: a warm white. The matte opal glass hides the source and spreads the light across the whole surface of the shades, so the pendant glows evenly without harsh points of light. Its energy label shows class F.
Where it fits
The manufacturer designed Bijou for interiors, and its place is the dining room and the space above a kitchen island. Geometric shades with no ornament and uniform metal details make it a pendant in a modern style. The Bijou range also comes in brushed nickel and matte black.
