The Cedar Point Large is a big outdoor wall lantern in cast aluminium with a black finish. Its clear seeded-glass panels, flecked with fine air bubbles, are divided by a slim grid of trim, and the lantern hangs from a straight, square-section arm screwed to a stepped wall plate. It was designed by the American brand Quoizel and is distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting.
Size and wall mounting
The lantern is 41.8 cm tall and 24.8 cm wide and projects 28.6 cm from the wall. It is the largest of the Cedar Point wall lanterns – beside a wide front door or a double garage door, a smaller fitting would look lost on the wall. Compare the width and projection with the space between the door frame and a downpipe or window.
The fitting weighs 4.46 kg and needs fixing into the masonry, not just into a layer of external insulation. Where the entrance has no flat stretch of wall, the manufacturer offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK, which lets the lantern hang on the corner of the building. Protection class I means connection with a protective earth conductor – outdoor installation is a job for an electrician.
Where it can hang and what light it gives
The IP44 rating protects the lantern against water splashing from any direction, and the manufacturer lists it for exterior use: on the facade of a house, beside the entrance, and on the frontages of hotels and restaurants. Inside is a single E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The seeded glass partly hides the light source, so the bulb does not shine straight into the eyes and shows only as a soft outline. The fitting works with dimmable lamps, provided the bulb is marked as dimmable.
Style
The manufacturer pitches the Cedar Point series at homes from a rustic lodge to a craftsman-style cottage – hence the rustic character: a pitched roof, a square arm and a grid of trim across the glass. The matt black sits well against pale render, timber cladding and stone.
