Cedar Point is an outdoor pedestal lantern by Quoizel, distributed by Elstead Lighting, made of cast aluminium in a black finish. The square head has a four-sided pitched roof, and its panes of seeded glass, densely flecked with air bubbles, are divided by a slim rectangular trim. The head sits on a round neck set on a square mounting plate.
Size and mounting
The lantern is 44.5 cm tall and 19.7 cm wide, and weighs 3.4 kg. The base plate has four screw holes and fixes to a flat surface – the top of a wall, a fence post, a gate pier or a plinth. The 19.7 cm head width is the figure to compare with the width of the post it will stand on.
Light and weather protection
Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The seeded glass is not frosted, but it blurs the shape of the bulb, so the source reads as a diffused glow rather than a sharp point. The manufacturer lists the fitting as compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer on the circuit.
The IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction, and the manufacturer specifies the lantern for exterior installation. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Style and where to use it
The roof, the pane trim and the seeded glass give the lantern a rustic character, close to cottage and craftsman-style houses. It suits gardens, fence posts and driveways, as well as the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The Cedar Point collection also includes wall lanterns in three sizes and a chain-hung lantern, so the entrance, facade and fence can be lit in one style.
