The medium Cedar Point is a Quoizel wall lantern with a black cast-aluminium body and panes of clear seeded glass, full of tiny air bubbles. The lantern hangs from a short arm projecting from a rectangular back plate, and slim trim strips form a grid along the edges of the panes. The fitting is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting by the door
The lantern is 32.6 cm tall and 19.7 cm wide, and it projects 22.9 cm from the wall. Compare the width with the space between the door frame and a downpipe or window, and the projection with any door leaf or shutter that opens beside it. The Cedar Point range also has a small and a large version, so the size can be matched to the height of the door.
The fitting weighs 2.34 kg. It mounts on a flat wall; for the corner of a building the maker offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK. It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Bulb
Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W; the bulb is not included. The seeded glass partly hides the bulb and diffuses the light, so the lantern does not dazzle with a bare source at the entrance. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs where the circuit has a dimmer.
Outdoors
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can hang on an exposed facade without a canopy. Aluminium does not rust the way steel does, which matters on a fitting left out in the rain. The simple box form with trimmed panes is rustic in style; the maker associates it with a lodge or a craftsman-style cottage. It suits a house entrance or the facade of a guesthouse or restaurant.
