Deryn is a wall light by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting, built from plain, angular parts: a rectangular wall plate, a bent arm and a cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass. The steel frame has a Distressed Antique Grey finish — in the manufacturer's photos the plate and lampholder cup show a calm grey-metal tone, while the arm has a clearly worn texture.
Size and mounting
The light is 25.5 cm high, 11.4 cm wide, projects 13.3 cm from the wall and weighs 0.81 kg. The wall plate measures 10.2 × 15.2 cm — compare this with the junction box or the mark left by a previous fitting that it needs to cover. The manufacturer's photos show it mounted both shade-up and shade-down.
It is a Class I fitting, so it needs an earth conductor, and it is intended for indoor use only.
What light it gives
The fitting has a single E27 lampholder and takes a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. Clear glass does not hide the source, so the shape of the bulb stays visible, and the bubbles in the glass break up reflections — a good reason to pick a bulb with a decorative shape. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming needs a dimmer switch and an E27 bulb marked as dimmable.
Style and range
Straight lines with no ornament give the light a minimalist character, while the distressed finish and seeded glass move it towards a rustic style. It suits a dining room, for example either side of a sideboard or above a table set against the wall. The Deryn range also includes three- and five-light chandeliers and natural brass versions, so fittings can be matched within one room.
