Deryn is a three-light chandelier by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A frame of straight steel bars in a natural brass finish forms an inverted diamond, and three cylindrical shades of clear glass with fine air bubbles stand at the ends of the arms, open at the top.
Size and hanging
The chandelier measures 55.8 cm across and the fitting itself is 47 cm high. It hangs from a 182.8 cm chain, and the overall drop can be set anywhere from 41.6 to 247.1 cm — low over a table or high in a hallway. Over a table the drop is usually set so the bottom of the fitting sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop, and the 55.8 cm diameter is the figure to compare with the width of your own table.
The round ceiling canopy is 12.7 cm in diameter and covers a standard junction box. The fitting weighs 3.25 kg. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to the protective earth.
Bulbs and light
Each of the three shades takes an E27 bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included. Because the glass is clear and the shades are open at the top, the bulb stays visible — a decorative filament bulb suits it, while a plain frosted bulb would take away the character of the glass. As a matching accessory the manufacturer names the clear, dimmable Litec E27 A60 LED bulb, sold separately.
The chandelier works with dimmable bulbs: to adjust the brightness you need a dimmer and three bulbs marked as dimmable.
Style and use
Deryn is minimalist and modern: a frame built from straight segments, no ornament and the warm, matt tone of brass. The seeded glass gives the shades a texture that shows most when the light is on. The fitting is designed for indoor use — over a dining table, in a hallway and in hotel interiors. The Deryn family also offers the same chandelier in a Distressed Antique Grey finish.
