Deryn is a wall light by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting, with a cylindrical shade of clear glass containing fine air bubbles. The shade sits on a round lampholder cup carried by an angled arm, and the whole fitting fixes to a rectangular wall plate. The metal parts are finished in natural brass with a warm, satin tone.
Dimensions and mounting
The wall light is 27.1 cm high and 11.4 cm wide, and projects 13.5 cm from the wall. The back plate measures 10.2 × 15.2 cm, and that is the figure to compare with the mark left by an old fitting, since it has to cover the cable outlet. The fitting weighs 0.81 kg. It is protection class I, so the wall wiring must include an earth conductor. The wall light is for indoor use.
Bulb and light
The wall light has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The shade is clear, so the bulb stays visible and becomes part of the look: a decorative filament bulb brings out the bubbles in the glass, while a frosted one gives a more even light. You choose the colour of the light with the bulb; for a wall light in a living or dining room this is usually 2700–3000 K, a warm light.
The fitting works with a dimmer when a bulb labelled as dimmable is used.
Style and use
Clean lines, a geometric arm and a plain, unadorned cylinder give Deryn a minimalist, contemporary character; the manufacturer recommends it for modern and transitional interiors. It is a good fit for a dining room. The Deryn series also comes in a distressed antique grey version.
