Deryn is a five-arm chandelier by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its steel frame forms an inverted diamond, and each arm carries a cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass. The arms have a matt Distressed Antique Grey finish – an aged grey with a texture reminiscent of weathered wood – while the lampholder cups, canopy and chain are in a light satin metal.
How big it is and where to hang it
The body is 53.7 cm high and 61.1 cm in diameter. Compare that diameter with the width of your own table: a chandelier over a table should be clearly narrower than the top, so nobody catches an arm when standing up. The drop is set with a 182.8 cm chain, and the manufacturer gives a range of 48.3 to 253.4 cm – enough for a low room as well as a tall hallway. Over a table, the bottom of the shades usually sits 70–80 cm above the top.
The canopy is 12.7 cm across and covers a standard junction box. The fitting weighs 5.38 kg, so it needs a sound hook or anchor in the ceiling. It is a Class I fitting, meaning the installation must have an earth conductor.
What light it gives
The chandelier takes five E27 bulbs of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included. The shades are clear, so the bulb stays visible and its shape becomes part of the look – the manufacturer recommends a clear A60 E27 LED bulb of 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K, sold separately. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs; dimming also requires a dimmer switch.
Which interiors it suits
Deryn pairs a plain geometric frame with an aged finish, which suits both minimalist and rustic interiors. It is intended for indoor use – over a dining table, in a hallway and in hotel lobbies. The same range includes one- and three-light versions and a natural brass finish.
