Hinkley Ellison is a wall light with two clear glass tube shades extending sideways from a round black backplate. At its centre sits a faceted die-cast cuff in a Heritage Brass finish, framed by two black bands. The design comes from the American brand Hinkley, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting
The fitting is 56.5 cm wide and 12.7 cm high, and projects 12.2 cm from the wall — compare the width with the mirror or cabinet it will sit above. It weighs 1.55 kg. The manufacturer's photos show it mounted both horizontally above a mirror and vertically on either side of one.
It is a Class I fitting, so it has to be connected to a protective earth — the wiring at the mounting point needs an earth conductor.
Light source
There are two E27 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included. Because the glass is clear, the bulb stays on show; the manufacturer recommends long tubular E27 LED bulbs that fill the glass tube. With dimmable bulbs, the fitting can be run from a dimmer.
Bathroom and other rooms
An IP44 rating means protection against water splashed from any direction, which is why the manufacturer specifies Ellison for bathrooms, above a mirror or washbasin. Beyond the bathroom, it also suits lighting a dressing table or a dining room. It is for indoor use only.
Black paired with brass and the geometric facets of the central cuff place it between classic and modern; the manufacturer calls the style transitional. A black and brushed nickel version is also available (HK-ELLISON2-BK-BN).
