Bowtie is a single-light wall fitting from Elstead Lighting in matte black steel with a white opal glass shade. The shade is a square funnel that flares towards the top and faces upwards, set in a holder made of two truncated pyramids — the bow-tie motif that gives the series its name. Everything sits on a round back plate.
Size and wall space
The wall light is 24.8 cm high and 15.2 cm wide and projects 10.2 cm from the wall, so beside a mirror over a basin it takes up little room and stays out of the space around your head. It weighs 0.9 kg.
IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, which is why the maker specifies it for interiors including bathrooms. It is a Class I fitting, so the cable in the wall box must include an earth conductor; it runs on 220–240 V.
Bulb and light
A 3 W G9 LED bulb is included. It gives 300 lm at 3000 K, a warm white, and the maker rates it as equivalent to a 28 W traditional source — the brightness of a mood lamp or mirror light rather than the main light of a room. Ra 80 renders colours adequately for everyday use, and the bulb's stated life is 25,000 hours.
The opal glass diffuses the light and hides the bulb itself. The supplied bulb is dimmable and the fitting works with dimmable lamps, so a suitable dimmer is all you need to adjust brightness. For replacement, any G9 bulb up to 3 W will do.
Style and use
Black metal and a white shade with geometric edges give a modern shape that stands out clearly against pale tiles. The maker lists it for bathrooms and dining rooms, and the Bowtie series also includes other wall lights and a flush ceiling light in the same design, so one room can be lit with a matching set.
