Bowtie is a three-light wall light for above a mirror, finished in matte black. Three bow-tie-shaped holders — two trapezoids set point to point — sit on a horizontal bar, and below each hangs a square opal glass shade that narrows towards the top. The bar is carried by a round wall plate. The fitting belongs to Elstead Lighting's own range.
Where to fit it
The fitting is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against splashing water — the maker designed it for the bathroom, above the mirror. It is 57.2 cm wide and 24.8 cm tall and projects 10.2 cm from the wall. Compare the width with the mirror or basin it will hang over. The fitting weighs 2.3 kg.
What light it gives
Three G9 LED lamps are supplied, each 3 W and 300 lm, so about 900 lm together — a little more than an old 60 W bulb. A colour temperature of 3000 K is warm white, which suits a bathroom in the evening. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is standard for general lighting; the maker rates the lamps for 25,000 hours, about 23 years at three hours a day.
The lamps sit in ordinary G9 sockets, so when they wear out they are replaced like bulbs, without changing the fitting. The opal glass diffuses the light and hides the lamp itself. The wall light is compatible with dimmable G9 lamps — dimming needs such lamps and a dimmer.
Construction and installation
The body is steel and the shades are opal glass. The fitting is protection class I and must be connected to the earth conductor. In the Bowtie family Elstead also offers other wall lights and a flush ceiling light with the same bow-tie motif.
