Bowtie Bathroom Flush Ceiling Light IP44 - 2 Lights - Matte Black Elstead

Bowtie is a round flush ceiling light from Elstead Lighting with a steel body in matte black and an opal glass diffuser. A black ring at the ceiling flares into a cone, below which a milky glass bowl protrudes, finished with a small black knob. The flush belongs to a series that also includes 1-, 2- and 3-light wall lights with the same bow-tie motif.

Which rooms it suits

The fitting is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against water splashing from any direction. The manufacturer intends it mainly for the bathroom and names other interiors such as a utility room or a downstairs cloakroom. Where in a bathroom an IP44 fitting may go is decided by the zones around the bath and shower — worth settling with an electrician.

The flush is 25.4 cm in diameter and 10.2 cm high, so it takes up little space at the ceiling and suits low rooms where a pendant would get in the way. It weighs 2.2 kg.

Light sources

Under the diffuser are two E14 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included — two need to be bought. The opal glass diffuses the light, so the bulbs do not shine straight into the eyes and the room is lit evenly.

The fitting works with dimmable lamps: with two dimmable E14 bulbs and a suitable dimmer the brightness can be lowered, for example in the bathroom in the evening. It is protection class I, so it has to be connected with a protective earth conductor.

Construction

The steel body is painted matte black, and metal screw heads are visible on the edge of the ring. The black housing and the white, milky glass make a clear contrast, and the manufacturer describes the fitting as modern.
