Grand Bank is an outdoor hanging lantern from Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting. Two crossed hoops in a distressed antique grey finish form an open sphere, with a cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass — glass with small air bubbles — hanging in the middle. The chain, ceiling plate and fittings are brushed aluminium.
Dimensions and hanging height
The lantern is 40.5 cm high and 30.5 cm in diameter, and weighs 2.48 kg. It comes with 152.4 cm of chain, so the total drop from the ceiling can be set anywhere from 50 to 203.3 cm. Under a terrace roof, work from the bottom up: the lower edge of the fitting should hang above the heads of people walking beneath it.
The round ceiling plate is 12.7 cm across — compare that with the junction box or opening it has to cover.
Bulb and light
There is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible — its look matters here, and the bubbles in the glass break its reflection into small points of light. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs when there is a dimmer in the circuit.
Outdoor installation
The manufacturer intends the lantern for outdoor use. IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, so it can hang under the roof of a terrace, balcony or gazebo where wind-driven rain reaches it. The body is aluminium. The fitting is Class I, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Grand Bank suits terraces, balconies and gazebos, as well as hotel and restaurant gardens.
