Grand Bank Semi-Flush Ceiling Light - 2 Lights Elstead

Grand Bank is a semi-flush ceiling light by Kichler, supplied by Elstead Lighting: a shallow drum of clear seeded glass held in two bands and hung on a short stem below the canopy. The finish is Distressed Antique Grey — one band has a rubbed-back grey texture, the other is smooth and metallic.

Size and fitting

The fitting is 30.5 cm in diameter and 19.7 cm high, which is how much it takes below the ceiling. A semi-flush sits lower than a light screwed flat to the ceiling but far higher than a pendant, so it suits places where a drop would get in the way of a walkway and a flat fitting would look too slight.

It weighs 5.27 kg. On a plasterboard ceiling it should be fixed into the structure behind, not to the board alone. It is a Class I fitting, so the connection box needs an earth conductor, and it is for indoor use only.

Lamps

Inside are two E27 lampholders for bulbs of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb shows through the shade — the seeds break up its outline but do not hide it the way opal glass would, which makes the bulb's shape and colour worth choosing deliberately. Bedrooms and dining rooms usually get warm light of 2700–3000 K.

The fitting works with dimmable lamps: dimming needs a dimmer and two E27 bulbs marked as dimmable.

Build and use

The body is steel and the shade is seeded glass. The rubbed grey reads like weathered timber and, with the bubbled glass, gives the fitting a rustic character, while the metallic band keeps it tidy. In the catalogue it is assigned to bedrooms and dining rooms. The Grand Bank family also includes an outdoor wall light and a single-light fitting that can be mounted as a wall light, a mini pendant or a semi-flush.
