Hampton is a two-light wall light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A rectangular steel frame in brushed brass holds a half-drum shade of white linen that sits flat against the wall, and a decorative etched acrylic lens closes it from below.
Size and wall space
The wall light is 38.1 cm wide and 30.5 cm high, and it projects only 14 cm from the wall. That shallow profile keeps a passage clear — the manufacturer lists hallways among its uses, alongside living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and studies. Compare the width with the stretch of wall it will hang on, for example above a chest of drawers or beside a bed. It weighs 0.95 kg.
Light sources
There are two E14 sockets, each for a bulb of up to 40 W; the bulbs are not included. The linen shade diffuses and softens the light, and the lens underneath hides the bulbs when you look at the fitting from below. It is compatible with dimmable bulbs — to dim it you need a dimmer and bulbs sold as dimmable.
The fitting is for indoor use and is Class I, so it has to be connected to the protective earth conductor.
Finish and style
Brushed brass has a warm, golden colour, and the brushing leaves fine parallel lines that stop the surface from shining like a mirror. Paired with white linen it gives a design the manufacturer calls transitional: a classic shade on a spare, geometric frame. The Hampton range also comes in antique nickel with ivory shades.
