Inglenook is a flush ceiling light by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting, with a shallow bowl shade pieced together from hand-cut art glass. The geometric Arts & Crafts pattern combines sapphire blue, honey amber and cream, while the ceiling pan and the shade clips are finished in dark Valiant Bronze.
Size and installation
The shade measures 40.7 cm across and the whole fitting is only 15.1 cm tall. A body this flat does not eat into the headroom, so it works in rooms where a pendant would hang too low. When installing, note the 17.8 cm diameter of the ceiling pan, which covers the junction box in the ceiling.
The fitting weighs 1.92 kg and is for indoor use only. It is Class I, so it must be connected to the protective earth conductor of the ceiling wiring.
What kind of light it gives
Under the shade there are two E27 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included, so you need to buy two. Art glass is not transparent: the light passes through the coloured pieces and takes on their colours, so this fitting gives warm, atmospheric light first and task lighting second. Warm 2700–3000 K bulbs bring out the amber and honey tones of the glass.
The fitting can be dimmed if you use bulbs marked as dimmable together with a dimmer in the wiring.
Construction and where it suits
The frame is steel and the shade is made of many pieces of coloured art glass joined into a geometric pattern. It is a Tiffany-style fitting with a classic design that suits bedrooms and dining rooms, especially interiors with wood and warm colours. The Inglenook range also includes pendants, wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps with the same glass pattern.
