Kristy is a ceiling light with four horizontal shades of cased opal glass radiating in a cross from a central body. The body and canopy come in the Distressed Gold finish – an aged gold with a clearly hammered, uneven texture. It belongs to Elstead Lighting's own range.
Three ways to mount it
The manufacturer designed Kristy to work as a pendant, a semi-flush or a flush ceiling light – the version depends on whether, and how many, rods sit between the canopy and the body. Five rods are supplied: one of 7.6 cm, two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm, giving an overall height from 12.7 cm (body tight to the ceiling) to 123.7 cm. A low room can take the flush version; a high one can have it hung on rods above a table.
Size and weight
The shades span 66 cm and the body itself is 12.7 cm tall. Compare that diameter with the width of the table or room it will hang over. The fitting weighs 6 kg, so a plasterboard ceiling needs a fixing into the supporting structure. It is a Class I fitting and must be connected to an earth conductor.
Light sources
Each of the four shades has an E27 socket for a bulb of up to 40 W; bulbs are not included. Opal glass is milky, so it diffuses the light and hides the bulb – there is no glare and the bulb shape does not affect the look. You choose colour and brightness yourself; 2700–3000 K is the usual choice over a dining table.
The fitting works with dimmable lamps – to dim it you need four dimmable bulbs and a dimmer.
The Kristy series also includes one- and two-light wall lights, a mini pendant and chandeliers with three, four and five shades in the same finish.
