Kristy is a wall light from Elstead Lighting's own range, built from three distinct parts: a stepped square wall plate, a block in a distressed gold finish and a tall opal glass shade shaped like an elongated cone, which passes through the block and also extends below it. The gilding has an uneven, aged texture – the close-up shots show rubbed-back areas and darker recesses.
How big it is and where it fits
The fitting is 35.6 cm tall, 15.2 cm wide and projects 13.3 cm from the wall. With that shallow depth it suits a narrow passage, and the tall, slim silhouette fills a vertical strip of wall well. It weighs 2.3 kg – more than its size suggests, because the shade is glass and the body combines steel and resin.
It is a Class I fitting, so the circuit needs a protective earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for interior use only.
What light it gives
Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included – for this wall light the manufacturer recommends a classic pear-shaped E27 LED lamp, sold separately. The shade is cased opal glass, in other words milky glass: the bulb cannot be seen through it and the whole glass glows evenly, with no harsh point of light.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps – with such a bulb and a dimmer switch the brightness can be lowered. A colour temperature of 2700–3000 K gives warm light that looks softer still behind opal glass.
What kind of interior it suits
The stepped plate and the geometric block are motifs on the border between modernism and Art Deco, and the distressed gold warms up the simple form. The manufacturer intends it for the dining room. The Kristy family also includes, in the same finish, a two-light wall light, a mini pendant and chandeliers with three, four and five lights.
