Kristy is a four-light chandelier from Elstead Lighting's own range. Its base is a steel hoop 83.8 cm across in a distressed gold finish — with an uneven, hammered texture and darker worn patches showing through. Tapered shades of cased opal glass stand on four square blocks around the hoop, and the whole fitting hangs from four short chains that meet at a ball above the centre.
Size and hanging
The fitting itself is 60 cm high and 83.8 cm in diameter — the figure to compare with the length and width of the table it will hang over; over a table the bottom of the fitting is usually set 70–80 cm above the top. The overall drop runs from 114.3 to 205.7 cm and is set with the rods supplied: two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm, plus 20.3 cm of chain.
The chandelier weighs 9.8 kg, so it needs a secure fixing in the ceiling. It is protection class I, which means it must be connected to the protective earth.
Bulbs and light
The shades hold four E27 bulbs, each up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included. Cased opal glass is milky and opaque, so it hides the bulb and spreads its light evenly over the whole shade. As a matching accessory the manufacturer names the dimmable Litec E27 A60 LED bulb, sold separately.
The fitting works with dimmable bulbs: to adjust the brightness you need a dimmer and four bulbs marked as dimmable.
Where it fits
The plain geometry of the hoop and tapered shades gives a modernist form, while the distressed gold adds an old, hand-worked character. The manufacturer intends Kristy for indoor use: over a dining table and in a hallway. The same family also includes a four-light Kristy pendant in the same finish.
