Kristy is a chandelier from Elstead Lighting's own range, built around a large metal ring 106 cm across. Five slim, tapered shades in cased opal glass stand on the ring on hammered-texture blocks, and the whole frame hangs from three chains gathered at a central stem. The finish is Distressed Gold — an uneven, aged gold surface with darker rubbed areas.
Size and hanging height
The fitting itself is 62 cm tall, and the overall drop, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the fitting, runs from 137.8 to 229.2 cm. The height is set at installation by choosing the rods — two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm are supplied. At the minimum drop, with the bottom edge 70–80 cm above a 75 cm high table, the ceiling needs to be at least about 2.83 m, so Kristy is meant for taller rooms. Compare the 106 cm diameter with the width of your table or room.
The chandelier weighs 13 kg and is made of steel, synthetic resin and glass, so it needs a solid fixing point in the ceiling. It is a Class I appliance with a protective earth conductor.
Light sources
Five E27 lampholders take bulbs of up to 40 W each; bulbs are not included. The opal glass diffuses the light and hides the bulb itself, and because the shades are open at the top, part of the light reaches the ceiling. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs, so with a suitable dimmer the brightness can be lowered.
Where it fits
The manufacturer classes Kristy as a modern design and intends it for living rooms, dining rooms, studies and hallways. The plain ring with evenly spaced upright shades suits a large dining table or works as the central light in a spacious living room.
