Luella is a three-light fitting by Kichler, supplied through Elstead Lighting, that can be installed either as a pendant or as a semi-flush light close to the ceiling. The tapered steel drum shade is black outside and white inside; beneath it three curved brass-coloured arms hold candle-style lampholders. The ceiling plate and the suspension rod are brass too.
Two ways to mount it and the height
Suspension rods are included: two 152 mm and two 304 mm long. Without rods the light sits 23 cm below the ceiling and works as a semi-flush fitting – the option for a low hallway or a walk-in wardrobe. With rods the drop extends to a maximum of 114.4 cm; the height is set during installation by choosing how many rods to use, not adjusted later.
The shade is 40.6 cm in diameter and 21 cm tall. That diameter stays in proportion over a table 80–90 cm wide; over a tabletop it is usually hung so the lower edge of the shade is 70–80 cm above the table. The fitting weighs 2.2 kg.
Which bulbs are needed
The light has three E14 sockets, each for a lamp of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included – three need to be bought. The black shade is opaque – it is the white interior that glows, so the fitting does not glare from the side.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: if the circuit has a dimmer, all three bulbs must be marked as dimmable.
Which rooms it suits
The manufacturer intends Luella for a living room, a dining room – including over the table – a kitchen, a hallway and a walk-in wardrobe. The form is modern, though it draws on lights from the early twentieth century: the smooth black shade contrasts with the brass arms and ceiling plate. It is for indoor use only and is protection class I, so it must be connected to a protective earth conductor. The series also includes a version finished entirely in brushed natural brass (KL-LUELLA-3P-BNB).
