Luella is a four-light fitting from Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting, set up during installation either as a pendant or as a semi-flush ceiling light. The wide shade, a tapering drum, is black-painted steel with a white interior, while the arms with their lampholders, the stem and the ceiling pan are finished in brass. The maker cites decorative lighting of the early twentieth century as its inspiration.
Size and two ways to mount it
The shade is 55.9 cm in diameter and the fitting itself is 21 cm high. Overall height from the ceiling runs from 23 cm, when it hangs just below the ceiling as a semi-flush light, to 114.4 cm as a pendant. Four rods are supplied — two of 152 mm and two of 304 mm — and the stem is built from them to the length you need, so the height is set once, at installation, not adjusted later.
Over a table, the lower edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the top. Under a low ceiling, in a hallway or walk-in wardrobe, the close-to-ceiling setup is more practical. The light weighs 2.6 kg and is Class I, so it needs a protective earth connection.
Light sources
Inside are four E14 lampholders for bulbs of up to 40 W each. No bulbs are included. The maker suggests separately sold Litec E14 LED candle lamps with clear glass: 4 W, 400 lm and 3000 K, which is warm white — four of them give about 1600 lm together. The light can be dimmed with dimmable bulbs and a suitable dimmer.
The opaque black shade sends light downward and its white interior reflects it onto the surface below.
Where to hang it
The maker lists Luella for living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, hallways and walk-in wardrobes, and as a pendant it also works over a table. The contrast of black shade and brass details makes it a modern piece with a retro note. The range also includes a version finished entirely in brushed natural brass.
