The Lutec Table Cube is a portable solar table light shaped as a 12 cm cube, 13.3 cm tall. Its top face is a polycrystalline photovoltaic panel; the rest of the body is an opal polycarbonate diffuser that spreads light evenly across all four sides. There is no wiring and no socket involved: you put it where you need it and carry it away in one hand.
Three brightness steps under your finger
Control comes down to a single touch button on the panel collar. Successive taps cycle three settings, which the manufacturer publishes together with the runtime from a full charge:
- 100 lm - about 4 hours
- 40 lm - about 10 hours
- 10 lm - about 40 hours
The brightest step is genuine working light for reading a label or pouring a drink; the lowest turns the cube into a glowing accent that lasts a whole weekend without another charge. A fourth tap switches it off.
Charged by the sun, no cable
The 1 W panel charges the built-in battery during the day. Lutec recommends eight hours of direct sun for a full charge; the real figure depends on the season, cloud cover and where the cube stands. With no driver, no lead and no power point, it works just as well in the middle of a lawn as on a balcony ledge.
A battery you can replace
Inside sits one 3.7 V lithium cell rated at 1500 mAh. Lutec treats it as a service part: the manual has a dedicated battery-change chapter and the cell carries its own part number, 9759808000. When runtime starts shrinking after a few seasons you replace the cell, not the lamp. The light source itself, a 1 W LED, is integrated and not replaceable.
Weather resistance and safety
Table Cube is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against splashing water from any direction - rain and garden watering are fine, immersion is not. It operates from -20 to +50 degrees Celsius, so it can stay on the terrace through winter. It is built to Class III, supplied from safety extra-low voltage (SELV), so there is no contact with mains voltage anywhere in the product. The manufacturer's operational warranty runs three years.
The quality of the light
The LED runs at a warm 3000 K with colour rendering of Ra 80. That warm tone sits well with timber tables, rattan and planting, while the matt opal diffuser kills the LED's point glare, so the cube does not dazzle at close range. At 100 lm this is deliberately not general lighting: Table Cube is there to set a mood on the table, not to replace the terrace luminaire.
Where it earns its place
On a terrace or gazebo table, on a balcony rail, next to a lounger, on a windowsill, on the steps down to the garden - and, after dark, equally well indoors, since nothing has to be installed. Its light body and the absence of a cable make it easy to line several up along a long table.
