Malibu is a bathroom wall light by Feiss (Generation Lighting), distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A cylindrical shade of etched opal glass sits on a stepped round cup, and an arm joins it to an oval back plate with the same stepped edges. The metal is finished in Brushed Brass.
Size and where to mount it
The light is 21.6 cm high, 12.9 cm wide and projects 16 cm from the wall. Compare these figures with the space beside a mirror or cabinet: on a narrow strip of wall between a mirror and a corner, the shade width and how far the fitting reaches out over the basin are what count.
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water, which is why the manufacturer specifies it for bathrooms, for example beside the mirror above a basin. It is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor, and it weighs 3.72 kg.
Light source
The fitting has a G9 lampholder and comes with one 3 W G9 LED lamp. It gives 300 lm at 3000 K, a warm white — the manufacturer quotes it as equivalent to about a 28 W traditional bulb. That is the brightness of a supporting light: well suited to a mirror, while a larger bathroom usually pairs it with a ceiling light.
The lamp has a colour rendering index of Ra 80 and a rated life of 25,000 hours, about 23 years at three hours a day. Because it is a standard G9 socket, the lamp can be replaced at any time. Dimming is possible with a G9 lamp marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer.
Style and series
The manufacturer describes Malibu as suiting interiors from classic to modern: the matt white cylinder is plain, while the stepped details of the cup and back plate give it a more traditional touch. Beyond the bathroom it can also light a dining room. The Malibu series also comes in Polished Brass and Polished Chrome.
