Masthead is a wall light from Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting: an upright clear-glass cylinder held in a brass cage of slim rods, with black rings at the top and bottom. The fitting stands off the wall on a round back plate in Heritage Brass, and the form draws on ship's bulkhead lights.
Size and mounting
The wall light is 35.1 cm high and 12.2 cm wide, and projects 12.8 cm from the wall. The back plate is 12.1 cm across — a figure to compare with your junction box and with the space between the mirror and the edge of the wall. The fitting weighs 1.02 kg and is Class I, so it needs a protective earth connection.
Light source
There is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included. Because the shade is clear glass, the bulb is fully on show and its shape sets the look of the fitting — the maker suggests, as a separately sold accessory, a long tubular Litec E27 LED lamp rated 7 W, 820 lm and 3000 K, which is warm white.
The fitting can be dimmed when it is fitted with a bulb marked as dimmable and connected to a suitable dimmer.
For the bathroom and beyond
The maker specifies Masthead for interiors, bathrooms included. An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, which matters by a basin or mirror where the fitting is likely to be splashed. The body is steel and the shade is glass.
The finish pairs warm, matt Heritage Brass with black details, so the light suits bathrooms with brass taps and rooms where black already appears in mirror frames or handles. The style is modern with a clear nautical accent. The range also includes a polished chrome and black version.
