Mixon is a single-light semi-flush ceiling light by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. An open wire cage – upright rods held by several rings and closed at the bottom by a loop – surrounds the bulb and hangs from a short lampholder below a round canopy screwed to the ceiling. The steel has a brushed nickel finish: matt, silver-grey, with a fine visible brushed grain.
Size and installation
The light is 27.1 cm tall and 14.5 cm in diameter and weighs 0.56 kg. It is a small fitting – its lower edge sits just under 30 cm below the ceiling, which is worth comparing with your room height and the spot it will hang over. It is protection class I, so the ceiling box must provide an earth conductor, and it is for indoor use only.
Which bulb
The fitting has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W, which is not included. The cage does not hide the bulb, so it is fully on show and shines directly – the manufacturer recommends an Edison-style bulb with a visible filament, since that completes the look. It also recommends a classic clear E27 LED bulb as a separately sold accessory. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs, so with a dimmer choose a bulb marked as dimmable.
Style and use
The manufacturer describes Mixon as an industrial-style light, with a cage like a workshop fitting and no ornament. It is intended for bedrooms and dining rooms. The Mixon family also includes versions in brushed brass, polished chrome and weathered brass.
