Nash is a single-light pendant by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. It has a thrown ceramic shade in the shape of a tall bell, in off-white with hand-painted grey stripes near the rim. The shade hangs from a chain whose middle section is wrapped in thick jute rope, and the metal parts – shade fixing, chain and round ceiling canopy – are finished in antique nickel.
Size and hanging height
The shade is 25.4 cm in diameter and the fitting itself is 55.5 cm tall. That is a modest diameter, so Nash works well in a row of two or three over a kitchen island, or on its own over a small breakfast table.
The pendant hangs from a 152.4 cm chain that is shortened during installation. The overall drop ranges from 69.9 to 226.5 cm, so the fitting suits both a standard and a high ceiling. Over a worktop the lower edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the surface. The pendant weighs 2.8 kg.
Light source
The fitting has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The ceramic shade is opaque, so the light falls downwards onto the worktop or table and the pendant does not light the ceiling. The manufacturer describes it as compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer in the wiring.
The pendant is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor, and it is intended for indoor use.
Where it fits
Hinkley describes Nash as coastal-inspired; the classic bell shade, the hand-painted stripes and the jute rope point to the Hamptons style. The manufacturer intends the pendant for kitchens – over an island and over a table – for dining rooms and for hallways.
