NIDAROS outdoor ceiling light 2124BL 8.5W 4000K - Black RAL 9005 - NORLYS

NIDAROS 2124BL is an outdoor ceiling light shaped as a black cylinder 12 cm in diameter and 18 cm tall, cast from aluminium and powder-coated in RAL 9005. Its underside is closed by clear safety glass, behind which the LED module's reflector is visible. The light shines downwards only, in a narrow 24° beam.

Where to mount the NIDAROS

The fitting is fixed to a horizontal surface – the ceiling of a canopy, a roof soffit or a carport ceiling – through two holes in its base. The IP65 rating means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so it works outdoors without an extra cover, at ambient temperatures from -20 to +45°C. The manufacturer intends it for lighting walls, facades and architectural details: mounted close to a wall, it lays a distinct cone of light on it, and ULOR 0% means none of the light escapes upwards.

The plain cylinder with no ornament suits modern and minimalist architecture – on a facade, under a roof soffit, in the garden and at the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The light weighs 1.47 kg. The 3084 spacer for mounting at a distance from the surface is sold separately.

How much light, and what kind

The fitting draws 8.5 W and gives 825 lm – roughly what an old 60 W bulb gave, but concentrated in a 24° beam, so it produces a sharply defined pool of light below rather than an even glow all around. 4000 K is neutral white light, and CRI 80 is the usual colour rendering for outdoor lighting.

The light can be dimmed with a TRIAC phase dimmer – the manufacturer allows both trailing-edge (TE) and leading-edge (LE) control.

Light source and connection

The fitting houses a Philips Fortimo LED module with an electronic driver, so nothing needs to be bought separately. The manufacturer states a module lifetime of over 50,000 hours (L70) and 50,000 hours for the driver; the module and driver are replaced by a professional.

This is a protection class I luminaire, so it needs an earth connection. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and up to 1.5 mm² when looping through to the next fitting; the cable gland is designed for a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The same NIDAROS 2124 body is also made in light grey, graphite and white.
