NORLYS London Big 4143BL outdoor pendant light – lantern on a chain, LED 13.5 W, 4000 K, black RAL 9005, IP54

London Big 4143BL is an outdoor pendant light shaped as a classic four-sided lantern hanging from a chain. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated black (RAL 9005), and the steel chain is powder-coated too. Instead of a bulb holder the lantern has a built-in LED module, so there is nothing extra to buy.

Size and installation

The lantern itself is 50 cm tall on a 30 × 30 cm square base, and with the chain the light measures 110 cm. Before ordering, measure from the ceiling to the spot it will hang over and check that there is still clear headroom underneath.

It hangs from a ceiling hook. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm² in a round-sheathed cable 5–12 mm in diameter, which is the figure to compare with the cable already run to the mounting point. The fitting is protection class II, so no earth conductor is needed.

How much light, and what colour

The Philips Fortimo module draws 13.5 W and the luminaire delivers 1942 lm. That is main-lighting brightness, enough for a whole entrance, a covered terrace or a gazebo. At 4000 K the light is neutral white, noticeably cooler than a traditional incandescent bulb; the 3000 K version of the same lantern is model 4142.

The manufacturer states a ULOR of 0 %: no light leaves above the horizontal, so it falls downwards and sideways rather than into the sky. The light is switched on and off and is not intended for dimming.

Service life and protection

The manufacturer rates the LED module at L90B10 over 100,000 hours and the driver at 50,000 hours. Both the module and the driver are replaced by a professional service, so an electronics failure does not mean replacing the whole lantern.

The housing is rated IP54, protected against water splashed from any direction, and the optical unit with module and lens is IP67. One B16 circuit breaker can supply up to 50 of these fittings, a C16 up to 85.

Where it fits

The sloping roof, clear panels in a black frame and the decorative finial at the bottom give it the silhouette of an English street lantern that suits classic architecture. The manufacturer intends it for gardens and terraces; hung from a hook it also works under a balcony roof or in a gazebo, and in hotel and restaurant gardens.
