Outdoor Chain-Hung Ceiling Light NORLYS Karlstad 230A/BC Black with Copper Patina E27

Karlstad 230A/BC is an outdoor light that hangs from the ceiling on a chain, with a Scandinavian outline: a conical hood 27.5 cm across with a clear polycarbonate diffuser beneath it. The finish is black with a copper patina – in the manufacturer's photo the surface has an uneven brown-copper tone typical of a patinated lantern.

Size and mounting

From the ceiling to the bottom of the diffuser the light measures 85 cm, most of it chain, so compare that drop with the height of the roof or canopy it will hang from. It hangs from a ceiling hook and weighs 1.25 kg. It suits covered outdoor spots: over a terrace, in a gazebo or at the entrance to a house.

The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², and the cable gland takes round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The light is protection class II, so no earth conductor is needed.

Which lamp it takes

It has an E27 lampholder for an A55–A60 shaped LED lamp of up to 9 W. No lamp is included; it has to be bought separately. An 8–9 W LED lamp usually gives around 800 lm, the output of an old 60 W bulb, and 2700 K gives a warm, slightly yellow light that suits the patinated body. A wider decorative bulb will not fit, because the maker allows only the A55–A60 shape.

The diffuser is clear, so the lamp stays visible and the light spreads around the fitting without being diffused.

Build and service

IP55 means protection against dust and water jets, and IK09 means high impact resistance. The polycarbonate diffuser is UV-stabilised, which stops it yellowing in the sun. If the diffuser is damaged, Norlys supplies it as service kit number 06240003.
