Outdoor wall light Norlys Vasa 128BC, black with copper patina, LED 8.5 W 3000 K, IP65

The Vasa 128BC is an outdoor wall light with a half-round cast aluminium body finished in copper patina over a black base. In the manufacturer's photo the surface has a copper-brown tone with fine lengthwise streaks, like brushed metal. It shines up and down at the same time through two clear polycarbonate covers.

Size and wall mounting

The light is 31 cm wide and 12.5 cm high and projects 15.5 cm from the wall: seen from above it is a half-circle, from the front a low, wide band. Compare them with the space by the door or between two windows where it is to hang.

It is fixed either via an intermediate plate with two 5 × 10 mm adjustment slots 45 mm apart, or directly with two ø5 mm holes 68 mm apart. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm² and a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. Through-wiring to the next fitting is possible with conductors up to 3 × 1.5 mm², so several lights on one wall can run from a single supply line. Installation is carried out by a qualified electrician following the instructions supplied with the light.

How much light and what kind

Two integrated Philips LED modules give 1128 lm together; the complete fitting delivers 631 lm at 8.5 W. Half of this light goes up and half goes down, so the light washes a vertical strip of wall above and below itself.

3000 K is warm white, and CRI 80 renders the facade's colours correctly, if not to studio standard. The light is dimmable, but only with a trailing-edge (TE) phase dimmer – check for that marking when choosing a dimmer.

Sealing, safety and servicing

IP65 means a dust-tight housing protected against water jets from any direction, so the light can hang on an exposed wall without a canopy. IK08 stands for resistance to an impact of 5 joules. As a protection class I fitting it must be connected to the protective earth conductor.

The LED modules are included and are not swapped like a bulb: the modules and the driver are replaced by a professional service, and Norlys supplies service kits for them. The manufacturer rates the modules at over 64,000 hours (L90B10), which at 8 hours a night is more than 20 years. The plain half-round form without ornament is modern and Scandinavian in style, and the manufacturer intends the light for illuminating walls and facades.
