Phix up/down wall light - 2 light sources - Champagne Bronze and Black Elstead

Phix is a Kichler wall light, distributed by Elstead Lighting, that throws light both up and down. Two black steel cones, white inside, meet at their narrow ends in an hourglass shape held by a champagne bronze collar. A straight arm carries them from a round wall plate in the same finish.

Size and mounting

The wall light is 34.1 cm high and 21.8 cm wide, and it projects 30.1 cm from the wall – the figure to compare with the space beside a walkway or next to furniture standing against the wall. The wall plate is 14 cm high and the fitting weighs 1.65 kg. It is protection class I, so it is connected with a protective earth conductor, and it is intended for indoor use.

Light up and down

Each cone holds an E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W, so the wall light needs two bulbs – none are included. The upper shade directs light onto the wall and ceiling above the fitting, the lower one onto the wall and the space below it. The shades pivot on the arm, so the direction of both beams can be adjusted after installation.

The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs: dimming it needs a dimmer switch and two bulbs marked as dimmable.

Style and use

An hourglass of two cones is a mid-century modern form familiar from mid-twentieth-century design; here the matt black shades contrast with the light, brushed champagne bronze of the plate and arm. The catalogue places this wall light in the dining room, where it lights the wall alongside or instead of a lamp over the table.
