Rendl DADOS III 60 linear pendant lamp, opal glass/chrome, 3×E27 max. 11 W

DADOS III 60 is a linear pendant: three opal glass shades in a rounded cube form hang from a 64 cm chromed bar. Each shade hangs on its own transparent cable, and the bar covers a single connection point in the ceiling. The Roman three in the name gives the number of shades — the DADOS family runs the same bar in other head counts.

What table it suits

The bar is 64 cm long and 12 cm across. Over a dining table, three light points spread along that run cover the top evenly rather than throwing one cone at the centre, which is the argument on a table that is longer than it is wide. On a top 80–90 cm wide the bar leaves a margin on both sides and does not overhang the table outline.

The cables are 120 cm and are shortened during installation; the fitting then stands at most 134 cm overall. The lower edge of the shades usually hangs 70–80 cm above the top, so the light covers the whole table and does not shine into the eyes of anyone seated. The fitting weighs 2.81 kg, all of it on one ceiling fixing.

What lamps to buy

Each shade holds an E27 lampholder rated up to 11 W — that is the ceiling for the lamp, not the draw of the fitting itself. No lamps are supplied, so three E27 LED bulbs are needed before it will light. Colour and brightness are yours to choose; over a dining table the usual pick is warm, slightly yellow light.

The shades are opal glass, which is milky and opaque: it diffuses the light and hides the lamp, so the bulb does not have to be a decorative one and its shape stays invisible once switched on. The fitting runs directly on 230 V mains.

Build

The bar and the shade holders are chromed, the shades are glass and the suspension cables are transparent — from below you mostly see three bright volumes, because the rest of the structure is thin and reflective. The maker intends the fitting for above a dining table, above a kitchen worktop or island, and for the living room.
