Riggs is a single-light wall light by Quoizel, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A cylindrical shade of clear glass with vertical ribs is held between two flat rings, and the whole shade sits out on a short arm from a round wall plate. The steel body is finished in Weathered Brass – a warm, matt tone with no mirror shine. The maker describes the fitting's character as lightly industrial.
Size and fixing
The wall light is 21.8 cm tall and 14 cm wide, and it projects 17.9 cm from the wall – compare that with the space beside a mirror, in a narrow hallway or next to a door, where people pass close to the wall. It weighs 0.9 kg. The Riggs range also includes two- and three-shade versions in the same finish.
Bathroom use and light
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the maker rates the fitting for bathrooms – for example beside or above a mirror. The wall light is for indoor use.
It has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included. The glass is clear and the ribs only partly break up the view of the lamp, so the bulb's shape stays visible and is part of the look. Beside a mirror, a warm or neutral lamp (3000–4000 K) with a high colour rendering index works well. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs a bulb sold as dimmable and a dimmer.
It runs on 230 V mains and is Class I, so the protective earth conductor must be connected to the earth terminal.
