STEINEL True Presence COM1 AP 068493 is a surface-mounted presence detector for indoor ceilings. Its black plastic housing, finished in RAL 9005, has a rounded outline and a continuous underside without a projecting lens. The COM1 version switches connected lighting on and off. Settings and communication between detectors use Bluetooth.

Choose the detection level, not just the range

The 7.2 GHz high-frequency technology detects small body movements, including movements associated with breathing. This matters at workstations where someone may remain in the same position for extended periods. STEINEL distinguishes the True Presence zone, up to 9 m in diameter or 64 m², from presence and movement detection reaching up to 15 m in diameter. These figures describe different detection levels rather than interchangeable coverage claims.

True Presence operation is specified for mounting heights up to 4 m. The detector's general mounting range is 2–12 m, with an optimum height of 2.8 m. When planning a room, consider both the ceiling height and the type of detection required. The maximum installation height alone does not establish that fine-motion detection is available throughout that range.

An important difference in the black version

This black variant cannot measure ambient light itself. If the installation needs to respond to the surrounding light level, the manufacturer requires an external light meter. Bluetooth connectivity should therefore not be read as built-in brightness measurement. COM1 is also a specific interface choice, not an alternative name for the DALI or KNX versions.

Ceiling footprint and intended settings

The housing occupies 123 × 123 mm and projects 45 mm from the ceiling. Its restrained shape suits modern, minimalist interiors, particularly those with dark ceilings. Official applications include offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, hotel rooms, production facilities and warehouses. Its IP54 rating does not override the manufacturer's indoor-only application statement. Connection to the 220–240 V supply must be carried out professionally in accordance with the instructions and applicable electrical regulations.
