Sylvia is a semi-flush ceiling light by Alora Mood, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A short cylindrical lampholder sits below a round brushed gold ceiling plate, surrounded by a wide, shallow dome shade of clear glass. A thin gold band finishes the lower edge of the shade.
Size and where to fit it
The light is 30.5 cm in diameter and only 17.6 cm high, because the shade sits just below the ceiling instead of hanging on a cable. Compare that with your ceiling height: under a low ceiling a semi-flush fitting leaves more headroom than a pendant. It weighs 1.4 kg.
The fitting is for indoor use only. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor; the ceiling box needs an earth wire.
Choosing the bulb
The light has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The shade is clear, so the bulb stays visible and a decorative shape is worth choosing. Elstead recommends a clear, dimmable 8 W E27 A60 LED bulb with 800 lm at 3000 K, roughly the brightness of an old 60 W bulb in warm white.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs; dimming also needs a suitable dimmer.
Where Sylvia works
The manufacturer intends it for bedrooms and dining rooms. The frame is steel, and the gold finish with clear glass keeps the light visually light despite its 30 cm diameter. The Sylvia family also includes a matte black version.
