Track spotlight for 48V magnetic track V-TAC VT-4221 LED 20W 4000K 2200lm black

VT-4221 is a track spotlight for a 48 V magnetic track, in a black aluminium housing. The round head sits on a short arm and that on an adapter which clips into the track magnetically — no screws and no tools.

What it needs in order to light

The fitting runs on 48 V DC and has no circuit of its own for a 230 V connection. On its own it does nothing: it works only inside a 48 V magnetic track together with that track's driver, and both are bought separately. Before you add this head to an existing run, check how much power is still free in the track driver — this one takes 20 W out of it.

The spotlight is not dimmable; the manufacturer states so explicitly in the EPREL register. Switched off, it draws no standby power.

What light it gives and where it lands

20 W produce 2200 lm gathered into a 34 degree beam with a peak intensity of 8013 candela. This is point light: an old 60 W bulb gave around 800 lm but scattered it in every direction, whereas here the whole output falls on one patch of floor or wall. It is therefore for picking out a shelf, a picture or a counter, not for lighting a whole room evenly.

4000 K is neutral white, with neither yellow warmth nor blue chill. Colour rendering of Ra 80 is enough for displayed goods and for work, but the red component is noticeably weaker (R9 = 11), so reds and pinks look less saturated than they really are.

Size, build and service life

The fitting is 21 cm tall and its outline fits within 12.8 × 5.6 cm — compare that height with the space left between the track and a shelf or display case. The head can be turned and tilted after it is clipped in, so the aiming is done in place.

The body is aluminium finished in matt black; aluminium carries heat away from the diode, and that is what decides how long it holds its output. The manufacturer declares 96% of the initial luminous flux at the end of rated life and more than 15,000 switching cycles, which matters on a fitting driven by a sensor or switched several times a day. On the current A–G scale the fitting is energy class E, corresponding to 110 lm/W. IP20 restricts installation to dry interiors.
