H48-B is a wall reading light from Zambelis' hotel range: a round 8 cm base with a movable arm ending in a Ø 3 cm tube. The built-in LED of 3 W gives 240 lm at 3000 K, and the fitting carries its own on/off switch.

Designed for hotels, which is why it looks like this

Zambelis files H48 under hotel lighting, and every decision shows it. The switch is on the fitting, so a guest is not hunting for a wall plate in the dark. The arm moves, so one unit serves someone reading sitting up and lying down. The base is only 8 cm, so it fits above a narrow headboard. All of that works exactly as well in a home bedroom, but the design choices came from a hotel room.

240 lumens for a book, not for a room

Three watts and 240 lumens is directional light on one page of text — for comparison, a bedroom ceiling fitting usually gives 1,500–2,500 lm. The whole point is that the other person can sleep beside it. The 3000 K colour is warm, and CRI 80 is the normal figure for functional lighting — print reads fine, though judging fabric or paint colours calls for CRI 90. The manufacturer also states a colour consistency of SDCM < 3.6, meaning neighbouring units light practically identically — which matters when they are fitted in pairs on both sides of a bed.

A tube you swing out

The arm moves the light point — projection from the wall varies between 7 and 15 cm — and the tube itself rotates, aiming the beam where it is needed. The diode is recessed inside the tube, so lying down you do not look straight at it. The whole fitting is 12 cm high and weighs 0.35 kg boxed. The manufacturer notes that installation needs no cut-out and no depth in the wall — it is a fully surface-mounted fitting.

What it cannot do

H48-B is not dimmable — it works on/off and will not respond to a dimmer in the circuit. The LED is permanently built in, so once it is spent (a declared 30,000 hours to 70% of flux) the whole fitting is replaced. Protection class I means an earth conductor must be connected, and IP20 limits installation to dry interiors. The metal and aluminium body in matt black carries a 3-year warranty.
