Aivian is a single pendant light by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting. The steel lamp holder and suspension rod have a Weathered Brass finish – an aged brass – and the bulb sits inside a clear glass shade that flares slightly towards the bottom. The manufacturer describes the build as industrial.
Size and hanging height
The fitting itself is 29.8 cm tall and 12.4 cm in diameter – a narrow pendant that lights a small area directly beneath it. Over a longer table or a kitchen island one will not be enough, so plan for several hung in a row.
The pendant hangs on rigid rods rather than a cable. One 15.2 cm rod and three 30.5 cm rods are included, and the overall drop is set during installation between 39.8 and 145.5 cm by choosing how many rods to use. Over a dining table the bottom edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. The round ceiling plate is 13.3 cm in diameter and the light weighs 1.02 kg. The manufacturer also allows it to be fitted as a semi-flush light, close to the ceiling, which helps under a low ceiling.
Bulb and light
The fitting has one E27 lamp holder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. Because the shade is clear, the bulb stays fully visible – a decorative filament bulb at 2700–3000 K gives warm, slightly yellow light and suits the character of the fitting. An LED bulb of around 800 lm matches the brightness of an old 60 W incandescent.
The pendant works with dimmable bulbs – to adjust brightness you need a dimmer and a bulb labelled as dimmable. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to the earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.
Where it fits
The cylindrical lamp holder, straight rod and exposed bulb in a glass shade are hallmarks of industrial style, softened by the warm tone of the aged brass. The pendant is intended for use over a dining table and over a kitchen island. The Aivian series also includes a wall light and three- and five-arm chandeliers in the same finish.
