Amelia is a flush ceiling light by Hinkley, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its domed steel body is finished in polished chrome and closed underneath by a cast glass diffuser with concentric ribs. The glass is held by a metal ring with two ornamental clasps, and a pierced collar with rectangular cut-outs runs right below the ceiling.
Size and mounting
The fitting is 32.4 cm in diameter and only 17 cm high, because it sits directly against the ceiling. It therefore takes no headroom away and works where a pendant would lower the space overhead. It is suited to bedrooms and dining rooms.
The light weighs 3.45 kg. It is protection class I, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor in the junction box.
Light sources
There are two E27 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour temperature and brightness yourself. The ribbed glass diffuses the light and hides the bulbs, so from below you see an evenly lit glass panel rather than individual bulbs.
The fitting can be dimmed when used with bulbs marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer. If the glass diffuser gets damaged, the manufacturer offers a spare under code GS757, so the whole fitting does not need replacing.
Style
The manufacturer describes Amelia as a classic form with vintage and retro details: the dome with visible clasps, the cast glass and the metal trim ring are what build that character. Mirror-like polished chrome is one of three finishes in the range, alongside Restoration Bronze and Heritage Brass. The light is for indoor use only.
