Amelia Mini Pendant Light - 1 light - Buckeye Bronze/Restoration Bronze Elstead

Amelia is a small Hinkley pendant light with a metal dome in a Buckeye Bronze/Restoration Bronze finish: the shade itself is a dark bronze, while the ring around its rim, the fitter, the rods and the ceiling plate are a lighter, golden bronze. The underside of the dome is closed by a cast glass diffuser with an etched prismatic pattern. The lamp is distributed by the British company Elstead Lighting.

Size and hanging height

The shade is 29.2 cm in diameter and the whole fitting is 24.8 cm tall. A single Amelia suits a small table or worktop; over a longer surface, several can hang in a row.

The lamp hangs on rigid rods rather than a cable. Two 30 cm rods and one 15 cm rod are supplied, and the drop is set during installation anywhere from 31.8 to 99.8 cm by choosing how many to use. To bring the bottom of the shade 70–80 cm above a 75 cm table, subtract about 150 cm from your ceiling height and check that the result falls within that range. The fitting weighs 3.94 kg.

Bulb and light

There is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself: 2700–3000 K gives warm light, and around 800 lm matches an old 60 W bulb. The steel dome does not let light through, so all of it leaves downwards through the glass diffuser, and the etched glass spreads it so that the bright point of the bulb is not visible from below. The spare diffuser glass carries the manufacturer code GS482-B.

The fitting works with dimmable bulbs – brightness can be adjusted once you pair a dimmable bulb with a dimmer. It is a Class I fitting, so the ceiling box must provide an earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.

Style and where it fits

Hinkley describes Amelia as a classic pendant with vintage details: the cast ring around the rim of the dome has prominent hinges and clasps, and the manufacturer singles out the all-metal versions as the ones with the most vintage look. Because these details are seen up close, the lamp looks best hung low – over a dining table, in a kitchen and above a kitchen island.
