Chateau is a semi-flush ceiling light by Feiss (Generation Lighting), distributed by Elstead: a steel frame with ornate scrollwork in a Mocha Bronze finish holds a glass bowl in a honey-amber tone. Cut K9 glass crystals hang between the arms, and a single crystal ball drops from beneath the bowl.
Size and installation
The fitting is 39.2 cm across and 33.4 cm high, with the bowl held just below the ceiling on short arms and no adjustable drop. That is the figure to compare with your room height: under the fitting you have 33.4 cm less headroom than under a bare ceiling. It weighs 4.32 kg, so the ceiling fixing point has to carry that load; on plasterboard it needs fixing to the supporting structure.
The light is protection class I, which means it must be connected to a protective earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.
Which bulbs and how much light
The bowl holds two E27 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps, so if it is on a wall dimmer you need bulbs marked as dimmable. The amber glass warms the light whatever the colour temperature of the bulb, and the light passes through the bowl mainly downwards and to the sides.
Style and where it belongs
The Chateau series draws on European castles and stately homes: the wrought-style frame, the patinated bronze with lighter worn highlights and the crystal drops add up to a classic style that suits period furniture and plaster mouldings. It is intended for bedrooms and dining rooms, where a semi-flush light lights the room from the ceiling without taking up headroom the way a pendant does.
